This professional basketball began playing in 1974 in New Orleans but being financially unsucessful Utah Jazz moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1979. Utah selected  Los Angeles Lakers Player Adrian Dantley before the start of the 1979-1980 season. in 1980, they also picked  Darrell Griffith from the University of Louisville.their 3rd pick in the NBA Draft was  Dominique Wilkins and big man Mark Eaton was selected  in the fourth round of the draft and these four addition to the Utah Jazz team sowed the seeds for the promising future of the team.

Adrian Dantley was undoubtedly the best player for the Jazz as he scored 57 points in an early season game against the Chicago Bulls. In 1983-84 Utah made to the playoffs for the first time and went on winning the Midwest Division Title. during 1985-86 season draft picking, Jazz picked Karl Malone out of Louisiana Tech with the 13th overall pick and Jazz made to the playoffs for the for the 3rd consecutive year with a 42-40 record. Karl Malone continues to be one of the top players in the season 1989-90 and he finished 2nd in scoring again with 31.0 ppg. But were beaten by Phoenix Suns in 5 games but they came back well and revenge by beating the Phoenix Suns in 4 games in the 1990-91 playoffs.

 In 1991-92 season Utah Jazz made 8 straight playoff appearance and reached their first conference final in franchise history. The biggest trade came as the  Utah Jazz acquired Jeff Hornacek from the Philadelphia and they went on becoming the hottest team in the NBA winning 10 straight games to close the season with a 53-29 record and ranked 3rd in the Midwest Division.

The Jazz faced the Seattle Supersonics in the Western Conference Finals and fell behind 3 games to 1.in 1996-97 Jazz reached the Conference Finals and faced the Chicago Bulls losing the first 2 games at home.  In 2000- 2001 the Jazz were the strongest teams in the basketball posting a 53-29 record and ranked 2nd.

During 2004-2005 season, the Jazz traded Carlos Arroyo to the Detroit Pistons with the hope to revitalize the team.
