NHL season 2006, the New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Rangers to win the first round of Stanley Cup playoffs and went on winning fifteen games in a row but later in the series lost to the Carolina Hurricanes, who eventually became the NHL champions. Also in the 2006 off-season, Montreal Canadiens coach Claude Julien replaced the coach Lamoriello.

Based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the New Jersey Devils play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Devils started playing in 1974. The New Jersey Devils have made to the playoffs for last nine consecutive seasons.
The Devils performed poorly in first few seasons of their play. During 1983- 84 NHL season, the Devils posted the worst record in the team history and ended the season at 17-56-7 record. It took Devils as many as 13 years to post their first winning season in 1987 and the same season the New Jersey Devils reached to the conference finals.
Season 1994-95 was remarkable for the Devils as they reached to the Eastern Conference finals once again and went on defeating the hugely favored Wings to claim their first ever Stanley Cup. Claude Lemieux was named as the playoffs Most Valuable Player and he was awarded with Conn Smythe Trophy for his outstanding performance. The Devils continued to perform well and won two more championship titles for the season 1999-00 and 2003.
