Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Montreal Canadiens play in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference. The Montreal are among the original Six Franchise and have a record of winning the Stanley Cup twenty four times in the league history.
In 1916, the Montreal Canadiens won their first ever Stanley Cup against the Portland Rosebud and since then there was no stopping for the Canadiens.
In the 1931 season the Canadiens went on beating the Senators to win their fourth Championship title but there was a lot more to come. In the decade of 1950’s the Canadiens phenomenal form continued and they went on becoming the best team in the NHL’s history by winning five consecutive Stanley Cups from 1956 to 1960. The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Black Haws in the year 1971 and Chicago in 1973 to add two more Stanley Cups to their tally.
The 24th Stanley Cup victory and last so far came in the year 1993 against the Los Angeles Kings and since then the Montreal Canadiens have not clinched any NHL championship title. In 1995, the Montreal could not reach the playoffs for the first time in 25 years.
