Miami Heat are the current NBA champions, they won the 2006 NBA title after defeating Dallas Mavericks. The team came into existence in 1988. the Heats’ first year at NBA was unproductive.  the Heat picked Kevin Loughery as the  new head coach. the Miamis finished fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 38–44 record and made to the playoffs for the first time in the franchise history and Glen Rice finished 10th in the NBA in scoring.

In  season 1992-93, Heats  included Harold Miner from  University of Southern California as well as picked John Salley from  Detroit Pistons. Team was pretty optimistic about  Salley's addition as he played on two championship Detroit Pistons,but he could not do wonders Miami.ultimately he was taken by the Toronto Raptors in the 1995.Upon Smith's return from his knee injury, Miami posted a winning record in February and March. They finished 36–46 and would not return to the playoffs.

in 1993–94,  Heats posted their  first-ever winning record at 42–40. Steve Smith was selected as a member of the 2nd Dream Team.In 1994–95, the team  trading away Seikaly, Smith, and Grant Long obtained Kevin Willis and Billy Owens.
In the 1996 season,the Heat finished with a franchise-best 61–21 record.new additions like Dan Majerle, P.J. Brown, Jamal Mashburn, and Voshon Lenard were made to team.1998-99, Miami had  conference-best 33-17 record and went on  claiming their first-ever #1 seed in the NBA Playoffs. they lost to the Knicks Game 5 to decide the series.The Heat moved into the American Airlines Arena in 1999, over 20,500 seats were available for the fans.in 2000-01, Alonzo Mourning returned in the middle of the season. Miami lost to Charlotte Hornets in the first round.
The next two seasons were disappointing in Heat history. The coach Pat Riley missed the playoffs.Miami showed some signs of  improvement in 2002-2003.Caron Butler led the team and many of the youthful players were included in the team .
Just before thestart of  2003-04 season, Pat Riley stepped down as head and Stan Van Gundy replaced him. Despite of early injuries to Odom, Wade and both Butlers, the Heat newcomers brought energy to the team. Miami lost the conference semifinals.
The Heat picked Shaquille O'Neal, in 2004 trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat posted its second best record : 59–23. They won eight consecutive games against and reached to the Eastern Conference Finals.

in the 2006 playoffs, , the Miami Heat eliminated the Bulls from the playoffs . They advanced to second Eastern Conference Finals after beating the Nets in second round. The Heat opened up the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals and won the series (4–2).Reached NBA Finals  and won their first ever NBA title after beating Dallas Mavericks four games to two.
