Based in Dallas, Texas, the Dallas Stars play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The franchise was founded in 1967 and was known as the Minnesota North Stars till 1993.

The Stars reached the Stanley Cup finals in 1981 but eventually were defeated by the Islanders. 1993, the Stars again made a trip to the Stanley Cup finals but this time to lose to the Penguins.

Season 1998-99 was remarkable for the Dallas Stars, the team recorded their first ever 50 plus win season and finished in the first place in the Pacific Division and then defeated the Avalanche to win the Conference finals and advanced to the Stanley Cup finals. In the Finals the Stars defeated the Sabres to clinch their first ever and only Stanley Cup title. The following season, the Dallas Stars again reached the playoffs but only to lose to the Blues in the second round.

In 2002-03; they finished the season with 46 wins and won the division title. Since 2002, the Stars have made it to playoffs every season but could not bring home the Stanley Cup.
