The Cincinnati reds were originally known as “Red Stockings”.  The Cincinnati Red Stockings started playing professional basketball in 1869.

The Cincinnati Reds won their first ever World Series title in 1919 and after 21 years of championship, the Reds defeated the Detroit Tigers to claim their second World Series baseball title in 1940. During the decade of 60’s the Cincinnati Reds were quite successful. However, the successful seasons could not produce any title. Season 1962, the Cincinnati Reds won 98 games and finished in the third position.

1970, the Cincinnati Reds were phenomenal and the team was popularly known as “The Big Red Machine” among the fans. The Reds remained excellent during the 1970 season; they managed to win National League West division title and National League pennant.

1975 season was remarkable in the history of the Cincinnati Reds: the Reds won 108 games to claim the National League West title and then defeated the Pirates to claim the National league pennant and made their way to the World Series. In 1975 World Series, the Reds defeated the Red Sox to claim their first baseball title in 35 years. The Reds repeated the championship magic in the following season as well. The next World Series was won in 1990 after defeating the Oakland A’s.
