The Blackhawks reached their first ever Stanley Cup finals in 1931 but only to lose to the Montreal Canadiens. The Chicago won their first NHL championship on 1934 by defeating the Detroit Red Wings. Later, the team performance declined and during the period 1945 to 1958, the Chicago reached the playoffs only twice.
