Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Carolina Hurricanes were named in 1997, before that they were known as the Hartford Whalers. The Hurricanes play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes met Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals and swept away the Oilers to win their first ever Stanley Cup.
