In 1953, The Baltimore Orioles moved from the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore. The early years at the Baltimore were not very successful for the club. In 1961, the Orioles first time crossed the 90 win mark and posted a record of 95 – 67 wins.

In 1970 season, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar and Jim Palmer led the way for the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles defeated the Minnesota Twins in the American League Conference Series for the second year in a row.

In 1979, Mike Flanagan won the Cy Young Award, going 23-9 with 16 complete games, five shutouts, and a 3.08 ERA. The Baltimore Orioles finished the season at 102 – 57 record and made a way to the World Series.
