The Hawks advanced to the playoffs every year for next few seasons and also won several division titles. In 1968, the franchise shifted yet again and this time Atlanta, Georgia. In 1980, the Hawks won the Central Division title. The Hawks won 50 games or more each season. In the 1993-94 season, under the coaching of Wilkens the team registered 57 victories.

In 1995, coach Wilkens made a record of 939 victories, highest by any coach. 2004-05, the Hawks acquired Al Harrington, Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, Peja Drobnjak and Kenny Anderson, Kevin Willis and Jon Barry.

 In the 2005 NBA Draft number two pick went to the Hawks and they picked Marvin Williams of the University of North Carolina. Also, a deal was signed with the Phoenix Suns to acquire Joe Johnson in return for Francis Pierre, Boris Diaw and two future 1st round picks. Despite some poor performance in the recent years, In NBA season 2006, the Hawks looks promising with some signs of improvement by winning against defending champion San Antonio Spurs.
